We Struck GOLD at the 2015 VisitEngland Awards

The World of James Herriot has been awarded Gold in the Small Visitor Attraction category at the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015 Ceremony.

The Gold Award is the highest Award for Excellence in Tourism in England which VisitEngland can bestow. The World of James Herriot was presented with their Gold Award at a glittering Awards Ceremony which was held on 11 May 2015 at The Sage, Gateshead.

The World of James Herriot received their award from James Berresford, the Chief Executive of VisitEngland.

 

Commenting on the award,  James Berresford, VisitEngland’s Chief Executive said “We received hundreds of applications of an exceptionally high quality making the competition for a Gold Award extremely tough. It is therefore a tremendous achievement for the World of James Herriot to win a Gold Award, the highest accolade for Excellence in Tourism which VisitEngland can bestow.They have raised the bar for excellence for others to aspire to and I warmly congratulate them on their exemplary contribution to tourism in this country.”

 

Speaking on behalf of the World of James Herriot, Ian Ashton, Managing Director had this to say –  “Everyone at the World of James Herriot is delighted by this result and it is a great reward for all of the staff and our volunteers. Our passion for World of James Herriot means that through our activities we have increased visitor numbers year on year since 2012 and it is nice to be recognized by our peers. We have enjoyed rubbing shoulders with some of the big names in tourism at The Sage and it is a great motivation to be involved in the Awards”.

The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015 celebrate the best of English tourism. They promote healthy industry competition and high standards, helping to ensure England’s place as a world-class destination. www.visitenglandawards.org.

The 2015 Awards attracted 345 applications.

The 17 categories for the 2015 awards include: Access for All Tourism Award, Bed & Breakfast / Guest Accommodation of the Year, Business Tourism Award, Holiday Park / Holiday Village of the Year, Large Hotel of the Year, Large Visitor Attraction of the Year, Self-Catering Holiday Provider of the Year, Small Hotel of the Year, Small Visitor Attraction of the Year, Sustainable Tourism Award, Taste of England Award, Tourism Event of the Year, Tourism Experience of the Year, Tourism Pub of the Year, Visitor Information Provider of the Year.

Included in the 17 categories are the additional Awards of Tourism Superstar and Outstanding Contribution to Tourism. The Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award was awarded on the night to the Chefs of England. Previous winners of this award have included The Great English Pub, Michael Eavis CBE, HM The Queen, the Harry Potter films, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Sir Paul McCartney, Liverpool, The National Trust, the English Garden, 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Makers and last year The Travel Agent.
