There’s so much to see and do here…
23 Kirkgate, restored to its 1940’s glory, allows visitors to immerse themselves in the life and times of James Herriot.
Come and view our wonderfully restored vintage car – as seen in the original BBC TV series, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.
The role of the farrier, which combines skills of both blacksmith and vet, is brought to life in this interesting exhibit.
We house the LARGEST collection of Herriot memorabilia in the world – from books, posters and letters to ornaments and collectables.
A 4000 piece archive showcasing veterinary instruments from the past to the modern day. It is the largest collection in the world.
Enjoy browsing in our gift shop – we’re sure you’ll find plenty of Yorkshire and Herriot inspired gifts, from sweets to books, to give to friends and family.
Sculpted by Sean Hedges-Quinn and officially unveiled at a black tie dinner in October 2014, our bronze tribute to Alf Wight will be installed to great fanfare in our garden on 28th March 2015.
Experience what life would have been like during the Second World War by visiting our air-raid shelter in the cellar of the house. There are artefacts to handle and sounds and smells which bring the period to life.
Meticulously constructed by Clive Thompson, staff member here at the Centre, our train set features Grand Central’s ‘James Herriot’ officially named after the most famous vet in the world in 2009.
Go behind the scenes of the BBC series “All Creatures Great & Small” and experience what’s involved in the making of a TV program. You can be the star!
In the foldyard enjoy an exclusive short film featuring previously unseen footage and interviews with friends, family and cast members.
There are plenty of fun activities in our Interactive Gallery, which is a great place to end your tour of the Centre. It’s not just for children either!
