Number 1 on TripAdvisor

We are consistently voted the number 1 visitor attraction in Thirsk –  and here’s why…

“Such a great museum for Herriot fans.”

5 of 5 stars

We highly enjoyed the tour. We are Herriot fans and loved all the exhibits. Very informative. Great gift shop.

“Visit the early era of vetinary medicine”

5 of 5 stars

If you are a fan of the vet books, tv series or films, then you need to pay a visit to this museum. Well laid out over a number of floors, it is a fascinating look back at a forgotten era.

“Memory lane”

4 of 5 stars

If you are fan of the books and tv series this is lovely little place to visit…my only complaint is the tearoom could be more in keeping with the era museum portrays not a fan of papercups!

“Return visit”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed

It had been many years since we last visited and we were amazed at the improvements. Anyone who has ever heard of James Herriott will love this trip down memory lane will love this.

“A Must for Herriot Fans!”

5 of 5 stars

This was my third visit (the first were in 2002 and 2003), and I love it just as much now as I did the first two times! Being in the exact building where James Herriot (aka Alf White) actually lived and worked is thrilling and it has been lovingly preserved. I would highly recommend it (and a visit to Thirsk in general) to all James Herriot fans!
