World of James Herriot, Thirsk continues to punch above its weight in tourism Awards following the presentation of ‘Best Coach Friendly Welcome 2018’ by the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT).
The CPT award was presented by Simon Smith, CPT’s tourism and coaching executive at the British Tourism and Travel Show to Ian Ashton, managing director of World of James Herriot.
Ian Ashton said: “This is the first time we have received an award from the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK and we are delighted. It is thanks to the many coach companies and group travel operators that bring their guests to World of James Herriot and Herriot Country who recognise how our small team is focussed on a great visit for their guests.”
The attraction continues to develop relationships with both domestic and inbound group visitors and works in partnership with other Herriot Country Tourism members including the Wensleydale Railway (The Herriot Country Line), and Classic Lodges Hotels. All three partners were exhibiting at the British Tourism and Travel Show with their ‘Heritage, Herriot and Hotels’ package as part of Welcome to Yorkshire’s Herriot Country. This group package offers ‘better than group rate’ prices when booked collectively and is proving a popular option amongst operators.
World of James Herriot has seen exponential growth in visitor numbers that has now reached 35,000 per year, up from 18,000 when the attraction was initially converted to a private business in 2012.
